Presidio hike/stroll
We are going to take a great hike to explore one of the best places in San Francisco - the Presidio.
The hike will be easy to moderately challenging and take approximately 2:30 to 3 hours to complete, before stoppage times (note that this can vary slightly).
On the map, the trail ends at Tunnel Tops, but those interested can continue with us to the Palace of Fine Arts. We'll grab some food either at Tunnel Tops cafes/trucks or after the Palace of Fine Arts.
Bring:
One liter of water and electrolytes
Snacks
Comfortable hiking/walking shoes, shoes that you are okay to let get dirty
Sun protection
Wind cheater or extra layers (we will go on the Pacific Overlook, and it'll be windy there)
What to Expect:
We will start from the bottom of the beautiful Lyon Street Steps
Stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, GGB, Andy Goldsworthy's Wood Line
Windy weather when in the open
A mix of clear and somewhat foggy, cold day with a mild/moderate UV index
May have bugs and wildlife on the trail
Dogs are not allowed on the trail
Total distance: Approximately 6 miles
Elevation Gain: About 600 ft
Duration: About 2:30 to 3 hours of moving time on the trail
Parking: Street Parking on Broadway and Vallejo Streets
Restrooms: available throughout the Presidio trailhead
Water: a couple of water fountains and cafes on the trail
Hiking etiquette:
Bring everything you need—water, food, anything else—in a bag that you can carry
Have great treads on your shoes soles, OR have hiking poles
Yield to people running on the trail
Yield to people going uphill while you're going downhill and vice versa
Where to Meet:
We'll meet near the bottom of Lyon Street Steps on Vallejo St. at 9:00 a.m. We’ll only wait five minutes for latecomers and start promptly after that to stay on schedule. If you’re running late, let us know via our WhatsApp group chat—we’ll help you join the group on the trail.
We’ll finish the hike back at the Tunnel Tops or Palace of Fine Arts. Those interested can join us for an optional lunch or meal and hang out for a bit after the hike.
