Details of the walk
This walk will be led by Honorary Secondary of the Old Bailey and organiser of the Old Bailey’s Knife Crime Outreach Programmes, Fiona Adler, . Accompanying walkers will include member(s) of staff of HMP Wandsworth, Rev Jo Davies, previously Prison Chaplain, of HMP Pentonville, Luke Carlson of London City Mission, The Sheriffs of London and their consorts.
Walking south down Old Bailey, crossing into Pageantmaster Court into Black Friars Lane past Apothecaries’ Hall on your left, cross Queen Victoria Street, past Blackfriars Station, over Blackfriars Bridge, right onto Upper Ground crossing into Belvedere Road, cutting through Jubilee Gardens on right, past The London Eye, onto the Thames Path, past the Covid Memorial Wall, under Westminster Bridge, past the Houses of Parliament, under Lambeth Bridge, onto Albert Embankment, through Albert Embankment Gardens back onto the Thames Path, past MI6 and the Maritime Insurers Building, under Vauxhall Bridge, right onto Wandsworth Road for 1.2 miles, past Nine Elms on the right and Larkhall Park on the left, after Wandsworth Road station and Brayburne Avenue and BEFORE the handyman shop there is a tiny, easy to miss (we missed it!) stairway with handrails that leads to Matrimony Place, walking past Eden Nature Garden on your left and St Paul’s Church and a community garden on your left into Rectory Grove then Old Town, past Clapham Fire Station on left, into Clapham Common North Side, through Clapham Common, along Broomwood Road, across Wandsworth Common to HMP Wandsworth.
Itinerary in prison
12 noon arrival and check in, lunch, split into two groups tour the prison, meeting back in the Event space with the Prison Council, which is made up of prisoners, where they can share their stories.
2:00 pm departure in prison vans to London Victoria (with various public transport options)
What to wear and what to bring
PHOTOGRAPHIC ID (driver's licence or passport)
Books for prison library.
This walk is on London pavements, wear comfortable trainers and clothes and carry as little else as possible.
No phones or electronics are allowed in the prison. The lockers are small. Belongings in lockers or Shrieval cab.
