About Event

A language course doesn’t have to follow a coursebook unit by unit to have structure, direction, and purpose. So what else could organize it?

In this workshop, we’ll explore ten possibilities—from task-based and negotiated syllabuses to Teaching Unplugged, projects, simulations, and principled hybrid approaches.

This is a practical overview designed to introduce new options, spark ideas, and help you identify approaches worth exploring for your own teaching.

For each, we’ll consider the guiding principles, concrete examples, where the language work happens, and which learners and contexts it might suit. We’ll also look at how different approaches can work together.

You’ll collaborate with other participants to choose an approach—or a combination—and sketch a change you could make with a real group.

We’ll finish with Q&A, resources for further exploration, and a practical next step you can take after the workshop.

Bring a group you teach or one you’d like to teach (well...don't bring them but have them in mind!) and leave with fresh possibilities, a clearer direction, and something to try.

Come, connect, share, collaborate, and start the transition from 'language teacher' to 'course designer!'
