How to Message Potential Clients Without Sounding Salesy (and Get Replies)
About
Most coaches get clients one of two ways:
Either the work comes through a consultancy or a platform, where someone else owns the client and you take a fraction of the rate. Or it comes through referrals, people you've worked with before, people who know you, someone who happened to ask. Which is lovely, until you look at next quarter and realise you have no idea where the work after this is coming from.
Both of those have the same thing in common.
Your next client is something that happens to you.
The fix isn't more content. Content takes months to build an audience and even then you're waiting. The fastest way to get client conversations happening is the one most of us avoid: reaching out to specific people, one at a time.
We avoid it because most outreach is awful. You've had the messages. Someone connects, says nothing, then pitches you three days later. Nobody wants to be that person, so we don't send anything at all.
There is another way to do it. It's the method we teach inside our Pipeline Builder program, and on Wednesday, 14 October, we're running the session on it as a standalone 90-minute workshop.
What we'll cover
The Engagement Grid
Every way of engaging clients, mapped across two axes. By the end of this you'll understand why the posting hasn't produced conversations, and which activity gives you feedback this week instead of next year.
The Art of Conversation — the Three Ps
Parrot, Position, Prompt. The three moves behind a message that gets a reply. This is the part that stops outreach feeling icky, because it's built on being genuinely interested rather than on a template.
Authentic Outreach (and a deep dive on the Intro)
The full shape of how a cold contact becomes a booked call: Intro, Interest, Invite. Then we go deep on the first one — how to open a conversation with someone you've never spoken to, in a way that sounds like you and earns a reply.
We'll do a live demo with one of you, on a real person you actually want to talk to.
Then you do it
This isn't a webinar. It's a learn-and-do session, which is how we run everything.
In the last stretch we'll give you time to write your own message and send it, with the two of us in the room to look at what you've written. You'll leave having started a real conversation, not having taken notes about starting one.
What you'll walk away with
A clear picture of where your client-getting effort actually pays off
The Three Ps, and the confidence to use them on someone senior
One message written and sent to a real prospect
The replay, so you can go back over the parts you want
Who this is for
Freelance leadership coaches, facilitators, trainers and consultants who are good at the work and inconsistent at finding it. If most of your clients come through consultancies, platforms or word of mouth, and you'd like a way to create the next one on purpose, you're in the right room.
Who this isn't for
If you're looking for a content strategy, an ads funnel, or someone to do the outreach for you, this isn't it. This is about conversations you have yourself.
One honest note about scope
We stop at the Intro phase. You'll leave able to open conversations. What to do when someone replies — building interest, and inviting them to a call without it feeling like a pitch — is the next stage, and we don't try to cram it into 90 minutes.
If that's where you want to get to, our next Pipeline Builder cohort starts on 20 October, six days after the workshop. We'll tell you about it. We won't spend the workshop selling it.
Practical Questions
Can I get the replay if I can't make it live?
Yes. Everyone who registers gets it. But the demo, the feedback and the room are live only, so come if you can.
Is this worth $49?
It's the same session our Pipeline Builder clients pay for as part of the program. We priced it at $49 because we'd rather have a room of people who are serious than a room of people who signed up for something free and forgot.
What do I need to bring?
A LinkedIn profile of someone you'd like to work with. That's it.
