Engineering Biological Alpha: Predicting which drugs will work in humans
At today’s pace of drug development, humanity will wait 500 years for every known disease to have a cure. This timeline is not inevitable. The greatest lever is improving which biology we choose to fund and pursue. Pheiron is building a systematic way to quantify which drugs will translate successfully in humans before clinical trials are run. In this talk, Thore Buergel will introduce Pheiron and walk through it’s approach for benchmarking data, evidence, and models against real-world clinical outcomes.
Thore is the Co-founder and CEO of Pheiron, an applied AI lab dedicated to Biological Alpha: the ability to know what biology will work in humans early enough to change the outcome of a drug program. Thore holds a Ph.D. in Computational Biology, was a researcher at Stanford and EMBL/EBI, and is an Honorary Lecturer at University College London. His research on multi-modal AI on large-scale human data has been featured in leading scientific journals.
Talk by Jonas Witt (COO mama health)
What Happens Between Doctor Visits: Building the patient journey from real-world data
Most of a patient's life with a chronic disease happens between doctor visits, and almost none of it is recorded. As a result, the patient journey of many diseases remains poorly modelled and poorly understood. mama health is building a real-time assistant app that supports chronic patients worldwide in their everyday lives while turning their anonymized experiences into insights for the healthcare system. In this talk, Jonas will share the journey of building mama health, why real-world data matters (not only) to pharma, and how that fits into the fundamental revolutions medicine is currently undergoing.
Jonas Witt is Co-Founder and COO of mama health, a health tech start-up from Berlin. He is a medical doctor, studied Digital Health at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam and holds a doctorate from the Max Planck Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience. At mama health he leads operations and the medical & research team that brings real-world data into decision making across the healthcare system.
