Quine Salon: We don't talk enough about Cicero!
Cicero deserves more attention as a self-made man who rose from modest origins to Rome’s highest office through talent, wit, and determination. He stood out for his loyalty to the republic, opposing tyranny even at great personal cost. Cicero shaped Roman thought with his rhetorical skills and preserved Greek philosophy, influencing the Renaissance and beyond. His personal letters reveal a deeply human side, making him a timeless figure of wisdom, resilience, and integrity.
Igor Krawczuk will take us on a journey through the strangeness of the late Roman Republic and the life of Cicero. Igor has a PhD in ML and optimization from EPFL and is now working as Lead ML Engineer at Adaptyv Bio. He's broadly interested in many aspects of social science and history.
As per usual doors will open at 19:00 and the talk will start at 20:00. Snacks and drinks will be provided but feel free to bring something to share :)
Tentative end date for the talk is 21:00 but most people stay longer!
