How We Care. A Guide to Home Funeral Care
Tickets: $15 Limited to 20 participants
Facilitated by Jaz Henry and Claudia Roto
Sponsored by the Houston Death Collaborative
Join us for an interactive workshop and discussion exploring home funerals. This two-hour introduction will explore the rights, options, and practices involved in caring for someone who has died at home.
Together, we'll learn about the history and cultural significance of home funerals while participating in facilitated discussions about our wishes, available options, and the roles we can play in preparing for death and caring for the dead. We'll consider how families, friends, and communities can participate in end-of-life and after-death care.
The workshop will include a body-shrouding demonstration, followed by a hands-on activity where participants can practice shrouding and decorating a doll. We'll conclude with a collective community death ritual.
Each participant will also receive an ending care package to take home.
This workshop welcomes anyone curious about home funerals and their options, deathcare workers, and community members interested in learning more about deathcare practices and collective care.
Community Access: The Houston Death Collaborative is sponsoring three (3) workshop spots for participants who need financial assistance. Please email bluepassageshtx@gmail.com to reserve your spot.
Tickets are $15. Space is limited to 20 participants.
