About the Event

A continuation of our community series; grounded in science, centered on women.

After our first Wonder Woman Project conversation, one thing became clear: women want more than a rushed appointment and a repeat prescription. They want to understand what is actually happening inside their bodies.

So we're going deeper.

"We want this community to leave empowered and refreshed with real knowledge about conditions that conventional medicine too often takes for granted."

💡 What we'll explore

This session was shaped directly by what our community told us after Session 1. These are the questions women are most urgently asking.

Why UTIs happen How bacteria enter and colonize the urinary tract, why women are more susceptible, and what is actually happening inside the body during infection.

What science still doesn't fully understand Why some women are more prone than others, where the gaps between patient experience and scientific explanation still exist, and the current limitations of research.

What's emerging The latest developments in vaccine research, microbiome insights, and novel prevention approaches and what the evidence actually says.

💡 What this is about?

This session brings together leading UTI researchers to translate complex microbiology into language that is clear, accessible, and relevant to the women living with these conditions every day.

Recurrent UTIs and chronic pelvic symptoms affect hundreds of millions of women globally yet they remain among the most under-researched areas in women's health. The science is advancing, but that knowledge is not yet reaching the women who need it most.

This conversation exists to close that gap.

This is not a clinical consultation or a treatment guide. This is a space to understand the biology behind a condition that has been dismissed for far too long.

Here's the agenda and the conversations we are having:

Total Duration: 60minutes
Panelists: 2 Scientist | Moderator: 1
Format: Guided conversation + light live Q&A

  • Welcome & Tone Setting

  • Panelist Introductions

  • Act 1 – Why UTIs Happen (The Biology)

  • Breakout Session

  • Act 2 – What’s Emerging in Research

  • Signature Reflection Question

  • Audience Reflection / Q&A

  • Closing & Gratitude

🎯 Why You Should Attend

  • Hear directly from researchers at the forefront of UTI science

  • Understand why recurrence happens and why conventional treatment often falls short

  • Explore what is changing in research and what it means for women

🙋 Who This Is For

  • Women experiencing recurrent UTIs or chronic bladder and pelvic symptoms

  • Women who are proactive about prevention and long term wellness

  • Anyone curious about the science of women's urinary and pelvic health

🎤 Who’s on the Panel

Our panel brings together leading scientists and researchers in women's health

A moderator will guide the discussion to ensure a thoughtful, respectful, and unrushed exchange.

You are welcome whether you ask questions, use chat, or simply listen. This is not about quick fixes it's about building real understanding, together.

Dr. Melanie Pearson, PhD Research Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology | University of Michigan Medical School

Dr. Pearson is a microbiologist with expertise in bacterial genetics, molecular microbiology, transcriptomics, and biofilm formation with a focus on Gram-negative bacteria. For over two decades, her research has explored how bacteria drive human infectious diseases, with a particular emphasis on urinary tract infections (UTIs) and two of the major pathogens behind them: Uropathogenic Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis.

Dr. Ana Lidia Flores-Mireles, PHD- Microbiologist and the Janet C. and Jeffrey A. Hawk Collegiate Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame

Dr. Ana Lidia Flores-Mireles is a microbiologist and Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame whose research focuses on how urinary catheterization triggers inflammation that increases the risk of catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), urosepsis, and bladder cancer. Her lab develops innovative, antibiotic-free approaches to prevent infection, including anti-fouling catheter technologies and anti-inflammatory therapies. Her NIH- and Open Philanthropy-funded work aims to improve infection prevention and future clinical guidelines for catheter care

Moderator:
Dr.Brian Zheng, MD Dr. Zheng holds an MD from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina and Fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the University of Michigan. His clinical interests cover urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, stress incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, urinary fistula, urethral diverticulum, and reconstructive urologic surgery due to complications of spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, spinal bifida, or complications from prior surgery involving the urinary tract.
