Fresh Food Community: Finding Abundance in the Discarded
Within our food systems, how can we turn trash into treasure? Food insecurity is not an issue of food quantity (or even quality), but rather an issue of dispersal. The pressure to produce and provide results in overproduction, and offers little cushion for the excesses or abnormalities that inevitably arise.
While we continue to move toward preventing food wast, there are things we can do right now to intercept the waste that continues to be produced, and divert unsellable food from its route to the landfill
In Fran's work as a gleaner— someone who salvages fresh food and redirects it to communities in need— they've seen an incredible network of groups and individuals involved in a rainbow of different roles surrounding making and providing of food. Let's get together and talk about how we can foster more integration in our local food systems and create environments where the abundance we have is accessible to all.
