Governance with the livings: Representing nature and future generations in decision-making

Businesses, organisations and public bodies are increasingly aware that they don't operate independently of living systems, they depend on them. Planetary boundaries and growing societal imbalances are forcing that interdependence into the open, and many organisations are starting to change how they operate as a result.
But the rules of the game haven't changed. Governance structures are still built on 19th-century norms that were never designed to give nature, or the generations who will inherit its state, any voice in decision-making. That leaves an open question:
👉 What would it take to transform governance so that nature and future generations are actually represented in the decisions that affect them?
This conversation will explore:
what interdependence with living systems actually means for how an organisation is run,
what it would take to build governance models that reconcile economic activity with planetary health and human wellbeing, and
why a transformation of governance is imperative to reconcile economics with planetary health and human wellbeing.
Speakers
Niels de Fraguier
Expert in helping organisations transition towards regenerative and equitable practices and co-founder of Vivøices, a not-for-profit organisation that fosters the voice of Nature and Future Generations at the heart of organisations’ governance. Next to lecturing at Sciences Po, he is also the author of "The regenerative enterprise" and serves as Secretary-General of Veolia’s Council for Future Generations.
Frantz Gault
Co-founder of Vivøices and specialist in representing nature in corporate governance. He published "La nature au travail" with EPFL and represents nature on several boards, including Norsys. A Sciences Po alumnus in organizational sociology he also co-founded Corporate Regeneration, which facilitates the integration of nature in corporate governance bodies.
Alexandra "Ally" Pimor
Earth lawyer, Nature representative, and Director of Nature Governance, a program of Earth Law Center. Ally leads the curation of diverse global courses on nature in business and organisations and nature-conscious leadership. Through her work, she engages in the global transformation of the ecology of law and governance towards an ecozoic social contract, to foster a regenerative economy in line with ecocentric principles. She also represents Nature on the Advisory Board of Purpose Disruptors (UK) and at the Palais de Tokyo (France).
