🎨 Activity details
A painter with a doctorate in mathematics from Columbia University, this visual artist is deeply fascinated by complex systems and the phenomena of emergence. Although her work is representational, she derives her understanding of representation from mathematics, which can get quite abstract. Correspondingly, while her colorful canvases may appear haphazard and unplanned, there is a systems thinking behind them. Her work reflects the order of the genome, the structure of mathematical theories, and the visceral human connection to nature and intuitive experience.
You are welcome to listen, ask questions, and dive deep into Helena’s world of art-making. No query is wrong, all questions are welcome. This is our chance to understand her process, and to bring to light with how we perceive the world.
PLEASE NOTE: This is the LAST and ONLY chance to visit the artist at her studio as the artist will be moving at the end of the month.

About your host
✨ Paulina is a Kindred member based in Berlin, where she has been leading contemporary art tours since 2018. Originally from New York City, she is a widely travelled art enthusiast with a deep passion for contemporary art, historical sites, and architecture. She studied fine art at Pratt Institute in New York and graduated with a degree in Film Directing from the School of Visual Arts. Since 2005, she has worked in screen printing and more recently with ceramics. Prior to her focus on art creation, she worked for renowned art institutions such as Art21 (PBS) and extensively as a set decorator and art director in the film industry. She believes deeply that art can change lives and that through meaningful contemplation we can better understand both others and ourselves.
