Session Summary

Learn how to apply the Microsoft Inclusive Design process to your own work through practical, real-world strategies for running inclusive design sprints. This workshop focuses on co-creation with people with disabilities, sharing methods for inclusive recruitment, equitable collaboration, and building with — not just for — the communities you serve.

Description

Grounded in years of practice and community partnership, we’ll share what we’ve learned about running inclusive design sprints, building with – not just for – people with disabilities, and creating environments where everyone can contribute. You’ll leave with practical strategies, tips for inclusive recruitment, and a deeper understanding of how to embed equity and co-creation into your design process.

This session is for you if you’re a designer, researcher, or product maker who wants to learn how to apply the Microsoft Inclusive Design process in your own work. Whether you’re just starting to explore inclusive design or looking to deepen your practice, this workshop will share practical tips for running effective inclusive design sprints, insights from years of real-world experience, and guidance on partnering with people with disabilities as co-creators.

Practical Skills

  • Participants will learn how to plan and run an Inclusive Design Sprint using the Microsoft Inclusive Design process, including facilitation patterns, co-creation practices, and structuring work so everyone can contribute.

  • Participants will be able to identify exclusion, translate lived experiences into design opportunities, and use those insights to influence features, workflows, and product decisions.

  • Participants will learn how to present and evangelize sprint outcomes—sharing results in ways that build buy-in, communicate the value of co-creation, and drive momentum for inclusive design across teams and stakeholders.
