Aqualand Challenge

Decent into the deep. A 7 week scuba dive quest!

For centuries, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef has guarded its secrets. Early Guna people spoke of underwater trials to prove worthiness, and whispers of Satoshi’s lost treasure have drawn divers to these vibrant waters for decades. The Aqualand Challenge was born from these legends—a modern-day odyssey created by The Scuba Shop for Infinita’s deep thinkers and pioneers. It is a seven-week immersion into the arts of buoyancy, conservation, and underwater exploration. Here, we test not just your limits, but your ability to harmonize with the ocean’s living systems. It is a quest to prove that the greatest treasures are not found, but forged in the deep.

🛠 Format

The Aqualand Challenge is a 7-week competition where divers earn points across a series of weekly events. Participants can repeat events to improve their scores, but only their highest score for each challenge type is retained.

Challenge No. 1: Setup and Teardown of Scuba Equipment

Participants assemble and disassemble full scuba gear (BCD, regulator, tank, weights, fins, mask) under timed conditions on the surface before and after dives. Fastest combined time for setup (pre-dive) and teardown (post-dive), with penalties for errors.

Challenge No. 2: Peak Performance Buoyancy

During a dive, participants demonstrate neutral buoyancy control by hovering at varying depths (e.g., 5m, 10m, 15m) and by maintaining buoyancy while navigating through an underwater obstacle course. Most precise control (least deviation from target depths, scored out of 100 by judges).

Challenge No. 3: Number of Lionfish Kills

Participants spear invasive lionfish during a conservation-focused dive. Highest number of lionfish speared and safely collected.

Challenge No. 4: Largest Lionfish Killed

From the lionfish speared in the same dive as above. Largest single lionfish by length (measured post-dive).

Challenge No. 5: Underwater Photography

Participants capture photos of specified marine life or scenes (e.g., coral, fish schools) using provided underwater cameras during the dive. Best photo judged by panel (criteria: clarity, composition, subject relevance; scored out of 100).

Challenge No. 6: Air Consumption Left Over After a Dive

Track starting and ending tank pressure during a standard 45-minute dive profile. Most air remaining (PSI) at dive end, adjusted for depth/time (efficiency metric).

Challenge No. 7: Search and Recovery of Satoshi’s Treasure

Simulated underwater search: Locate and recover hidden "treasure" items (e.g., fiat coins and hardware wallets) placed by divemasters at Satoshi’s Grace dive site.

Challenge No. 8: Volleyball Game

Beach volleyball match post-dives; teams of 6 (mixed participants and staff). Mandatory for points eligibility. Team win earns points for all members on winning team.

❓ FAQs

•What certification is required?

•All participants must be certified divers (PADI Open Water, SSI Open Water, or equivalent minimum). This is not a learn-to-dive event.

•Is it safe?

•Absolutely. All dives are led and supervised by certified professionals from The Scuba Shop. Safety adheres to strict PADI and SSI industry standards, including buddy systems, dive planning, and no-decompression limits.

•What equipment is needed?

•All essential scuba equipment (BCD, regulator, tank, weights, fins, mask) is provided. Participants may bring their own gear subject to inspection.

•What are the conservation elements?

•The lionfish hunting challenges are a core part of the event. Lionfish are an invasive species that devastate local reef ecosystems. This challenge directly contributes to reef health and is a key factor in tie-breaking.

•Who can compete?

•Open to all registered Infinite Games participants who hold a Node ID pass and meet the minimum scuba certification requirements. A medical waiver is also required.
