About Event

Presented by Doris Baird Foundation

Advancing Kidney Care for People of African Descent brings together leaders, practitioners, and advocates to address equity, access, and outcomes in kidney health.

People of African descent face disproportionately high rates of kidney disease — and dramatically less access to the dialysis that keeps them alive.

Join Dr. Wycliffe Baird, founder of the Doris Baird Memorial Dialysis Clinic in Tema, Ghana, for a candid conversation at the United Nations on what health equity actually looks like in practice — not in policy papers, but in treatment rooms, in waiting lists, and in the families who travel hours for care they may not even receive.

This side event brings together health advocates, global policymakers, and community leaders to examine the structural barriers driving this crisis and the concrete solutions already within reach.

The clinic is fully built. Dialysis machines are on site. What's missing is the funding to open the doors.

Come hear what's possible — and what's at stake — when we choose access over absence.
