About Event

Welcome to Maroon Theatre Project's inaugural spring showcase, where we celebrate the culmination of creativity, passion, and social consciousness embodied by our founding artistic cohort (Khafeeon Love & Flowtree Lox) and the very first Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting fellows.

This event promises an evening of artistic sharing and profound storytelling. Through the power of theatre, we will honor the voices of our youth and their dedication to social justice.

Maroon Theatre Project (MTP) stands as a beacon of empowerment for youth of color, providing a nurturing environment where artistic expression intersects with social justice and political education. Through our programs, young individuals find their voices amplified, their stories validated, and their potential unleashed.

The Lorraine Hansberry Youth Playwriting Fellowship is at the heart of this showcase, a groundbreaking initiative tailored for Newark's youth. This fellowship empowers high school students to explore sociopolitical issues, collaborate with peers, and craft original plays that reflect their passions and perspectives. Through the transformative journey of playwriting, participants hone their artistic skills and emerge as leaders equipped to address the pressing issues of our time.

Join us for an evening of inspiration, empowerment, and artistic exploration as we celebrate the profound impact of the Maroon Theatre Project and the transformative journeys of our youth playwrights. Let's illuminate the stage together with stories that challenge, provoke, and inspire.
