About Event

Run away from the summer heat of Madrid and join the community for a 14km escape into the shaded woods of Valle de Lozoyuela, near the lovely town of Rascafría.

Proposed by community member Vanessa, this escape takes us deep into the Sierra de Guadarrama for a full day of wilderness immersion. Departing from the historic Monasterio de Santa María del Paular, we will trek a circular 14-kilometer trail that leads directly to the Las Presas del Purgatorio waterfalls. The path follows the river basin, providing a lush canopy that keeps the route cooler than the city. Along the trail, we will pause for a group picnic in nature, with the added opportunity for a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Aguilón river.

The Ultimate Why

Getting out of the city into nature is one of the best ways to build authentic connections. A full-day hike breaks down social barriers naturally through shared effort, miles of open conversation, and a relaxed picnic environment completely free from digital distractions.

What to Expect

The Trail: A scenic 14-kilometer circular hike with a moderate challenge, culminating at the Purgatorio Waterfall.

Carpool Logistics: We will organize shared transportation between members. Final attendee confirmation will depend strictly on car availability.

Lunch in Nature: This is a bring-your-own-food activity. We suggest packing a light lunch, snacks to share, and plenty of water to stay hydrated.

River Swim: There is a strong possibility of a swim in the river, so we highly recommend packing a swimsuit and a lightweight towel just in case.

Dog Friendly: Pups are more than welcome to join the group on the trail.

Authentic Connection: An environment strictly free from digital distractions to fully focus on the nature and the group.

Venue: Monasterio de Santa María del Paular Parking

Meeting Point: Monasterio de Santa María del Paular Parking Lot (Rascafría). (For those driving directly. Carpool departure points inside Madrid will be coordinated with approved attendees).

Route Reference: View the exact trail layout on our Komoot Map here.

Timeline

08:30 - 08:45: Meetup at the designated carpool departure location in Madrid.

08:45 - 10:00: Drive to the mountains.

10:00 - 17:00: Hike departure from Monasterio del Paular, including trail time and a scenic mid-hike picnic.

17:00 - 18:30: End of the hike and return drive back to Madrid.

Inclusions

Included: Guided group trail itinerary and centralized carpool organization.

Deposit Note: This is a free community event. The €5 ticket is a temporary holding deposit used to secure carpool seating and prevent last-minute no-shows. Your €5 will be fully processed as a refund back to your card following your attendance at the hike.

Introducing Our Host: Carlos Ruz & Vanessa

Hi there, my name is Carlos. I'm a Madrileño by birthright, but a world citizen by heart. I'm a curious adventurer always in search for new ways of understanding life and happiness. I’m that kind of person who’s not defined by their job (people rarely guess it), I've attempted painting, playing an instrument, graphic design, sports, etc... but by my true passions are undoubtedly food and people. Always in for a good bite. Always ready to listen (if I'm not doing the talking).

You will probably always find me surrounded by people having funny and interesting conversations and this weekend I want to take you on a HIKE!

Life is all about sharing and is never that serious, so let’s find a way to make fun of it and enjoy nature together.

Hi, I'm Vanessa.

I believe life gets better the closer you are to the sea, the mountains, and interesting people. After living in different corners of the world, I recently landed in Madrid, but I'm still happiest when exploring somewhere new.

I work in fashion, spend far too much time doing sports, and never say no to a hike, a kite session, or a conversation that goes beyond small talk.

I'm fascinated by people who are building something:  a business, a dream, a community, or simply a life that feels true to them.

Carlos and I are excited to spend the day with you. Bring your hiking shoes, your curiosity, and maybe a good story or two.
