COMM CONVO: THE COMMS RISK RECALCULATION
Every consequential communications decision carries multiple forms of risk: A position that reassures employees may create political exposure. Silence that protects the company legally may weaken trust with patients or customers. A quick response may satisfy one stakeholder while limiting the company’s options later. Communicators are often the ones helping leadership see those tradeoffs clearly. Yet many organizations still evaluate reputational, legal, commercial, employee, investor, and policy risk in separate conversations, or default to whichever concern has the strongest internal advocate. This Comm Convo will examine how senior communicators can bring those perspectives together, clarify the organization’s risk appetite, and help leaders make defensible choices when every available path carries consequences.
WHY ATTEND
Compare reputational, legal, political, employee, commercial, investor, and patient implications without allowing one form of risk to dominate the decision.
Establish clearer principles for deciding which issues require a company position, which warrant preparation behind the scenes, and which do not merit a response.
Help leadership define the organization’s risk appetite before a contentious decision forces the conversation.
Examine how consistency across decisions shapes credibility with stakeholders and confidence in the communications function.
