Wake-Up Session: Tariffs and the Canadian Economic Outlook: Trade, Energy, and Supply Chain Uncertainty
Canadian Economic Outlook: Trade, Energy, and Supply Chain Uncertainty
Canada’s economy is navigating an unusually challenging period of trade and geopolitical uncertainty. Shifting U.S. tariff and trade policies are putting significant pressure on Canadian manufacturers, while the U.S.-Iran conflict and resulting energy shock are adding further risks to the global outlook.
This session will examine how Canada’s economy is responding to these overlapping shocks and what they mean for the near-term outlook, with a particular focus on trade and manufacturing. It will also explore Canada’s longer-term challenges, including weak investment, sluggish productivity growth, and pressures on living standards.
