Carbon Markets for Resilient Business: Reducing Risk and Driving Systemic Change
Building on the World Economic Forum–KPMG briefing paper, Building Carbon Markets that Deliver: A Public-Private Agenda, this event will explore how high-integrity carbon markets can move from a discretionary sustainability intervention to a strategic tool for corporate resilience, risk mitigation and long-term competitiveness.
Corporate demand remains constrained not only by questions of credit integrity, but by uncertainty over the business case, legal and reputational exposure, complex procurement, future price and supply risk, and a lack of alignment between sustainability and finance functions.
The session will therefore focus on the practical question facing corporate leaders: how can CSOs and CFOs jointly assess, finance and govern participation in carbon markets as part of an integrated approach to transition risk, supply chain resilience and future cost exposure?
The event will demonstrate the role of position advance market commitments (AMCs) and buyer coalitions as practical demand-side infrastructure. By aggregating buyers, sharing due diligence, standardising procurement and contracting, improving access to high-integrity supply and providing forward demand signals, AMCs can reduce the cost, complexity and risk of corporate participation. Through concise solution showcases and facilitated breakout sessions, participants will examine how different AMC models address specific corporate risks and what is required to broaden participation and drive systemic market change.
