Lessons from nature: What's emotional biomimicry? August Edition
Have you felt like the way we handle issues as a culture is leading to a lot of harm?
Do you think we could benefit from being more connected to nature and learning from it?
Did those previous sentences feel like massive understatements?
Most people today are not threatened by scarcity and natural dangers but by our philosophy and other humans. The ways in which we approach the world and form relationships with it are at the core of violence, inequality, loneliness, techno-feudalism and climate catastrophe to name but a few of our most pressing problems.
Thankfully, we are not alone on this planet, and other organisms have been developing ways to sustainably be on this planet for millions of years. In many indigenous cultures humanity is seen as a younger sibling who needs to learn from the wisdom of organisms that have been living here for much longer. That is the core of the Soil to Grow approach – emotional biomimicry. Learning from the behavior of organisms that have been evolving to optimize problem-solving for millions of years and finding ways to implement those lessons in our own lives.
Evolution has provided an unprecedented level of testing for different approaches and the survivors of evolutionary pressure can already teach us a lot. At the same time, the natural world can offer us a mirror like no other to introspect and develop wiser ways to be: to ensure our happiness, the health of our systems and our collective success.
Do you want to look in that mirror with us and find out what the natural world can teach you about yourself and how to navigate your life?
This session is going to be an interactive introduction to the concept of emotional biomimicry - explaining the philosophy of the approach, how it applies to personal growth, relationship building, artistic expression and more, as well as offer opportunities to practice applying emotional biomimicry to your own life.
By the end of our 2 hours together you will:
Have an understanding of what emotional biomimicry means
Have explored practical examples of how lessons from other organisms can be useful in your life
Have next steps to continue with this work after this workshop
