About Event

DESIGN IS BETTER WHEN PEOPLE TALK!

No gatekeeping. Open conversations. About work. About the industry. About how things could be better.

Join us for this informal gathering of curious minds to explore design and politics, the impact of cross-industry collaboration — a space to meet, exchange, and spark new conversations. The Irregular Afters, hosted by the Irregulars Alliance.

ABOUT US

As a studio working at the intersection of design, art, cultural production and representation, we exist to spark conversations, collaborations, and cultures that move ideas forward.

ABOUT THE SESSION

This session, we are excited to invite Parakram Kakkar, Abhinandita Mathur and Aarman Roy for an evening gathering that combines a short three-part talk with plenty of time for informal introductions and conversations.

The evening explores 3 key topics:

Part 1: Designing Power — The Politics of Perception with Parakram Kakkar

What wins elections today? Neta ke promises? Speeches? Insta reels? It’s the whole packaging. And, yes, that includes the font, the colour, the slogan, the vibe.
Politics has quietly borrowed the entire playbook of branding, and most of us don’t even notice it happening. This is a slightly irreverent look at how political power is designed, how leaders are turned into symbols, campaigns into identities, and voters into audiences. Why does one face feel trustworthy and another forgettable? Why does one slogan stick while another dies? Parakram has been inside the electoral machine, working on campaigns, shaping narratives, and seeing up close how perception often outruns reality. In this session, he'll unpack the design choices, storytelling tricks, and strategic illusions that can make or break an election.

Part 2: Political Image & Persona Design with Abhinandita Mathur

An analytical exploration of political design and how personas are constructed, what cuts through in a saturated image landscape, and how context shapes perception. With a focus on women in politics, the talk examines the visual constraints and expectations that shape how women are seen, read, and legitimised in public life, and the strategies used to navigate them.

Part 3: Culture, Media & Political Imagination with Aarman Roy

What happens when design doesn’t just communicate politics—but shapes how we engage with it? From his work on Akademi Mag and collaborating with political and cultural organisations, Aarman Roy’s practice looks at how design can build new audiences—especially amongst the youth—and create interest in political discourse. In this session, he dives deeper on his practice across design, media, and culture, and how it informs his approach to political storytelling.
