AI Water Use - Facts & Fiction - Featuring AirBuild Inc. (w/ The AI Collective)
You've heard the headlines about AI guzzling water, but what's actually true? Come find out at this kickoff event in what will be a growing series on AI and the environment, hosted by The AI Collective right here in Portland.
The night starts with a presentation breaking down the real facts (and real fiction) around AI water consumption. Then David Gory, CEO and co-founder of AirBuild Inc., will share how his company is transforming what's possible with waste water treatment. AirBuild wastewater systems use microalgae to recover nitrogen and phosphorus, converting waste into clean water, slow-release fertilizer, and meaningful carbon removal. It's the kind of innovation that makes you realize solutions to big problems can come from unexpected places.
After the presentations, we break into small groups to get into it together. How do we, as people who actually care, make our voices heard on AI's environmental footprint? What solutions could we build? What elected officials could we call? What do YOU want to see change?
You'll also get to help shape what comes next by telling us what future events you want to see or even lead with AIC PDX. Portland has a real shot at becoming a national voice in the ethical AI conversation, and this is where that starts.
