About Event

AI is rapidly changing how young people learn, create, communicate, and understand the world around them. As these tools become part of everyday life, an important question is emerging for families and schools:

How do we help young people benefit from AI while developing the judgment, values, and critical-thinking skills to use it responsibly?

About the Event

Join us for a special community conversation with De Kai Wu, internationally recognized AI scientist, HKUST professor, pioneer in machine translation, and one of TIME's 100 most influential people in AI. De Kai is also a leading voice on AI ethics and the author of Raising AI: An Essential Guide to Parenting Our Future.

Part 1: Keynote — AI, Humanity & the Next Generation

De Kai will take us beyond the latest AI tools for a deeper look at the relationship between AI and humanity: how AI learns from human behavior, how our interactions with technology influence the systems we are creating, and what responsibility we have for the values those systems inherit.

He'll explore questions especially relevant to parents and educators, including misinformation, bias, critical thinking, digital behavior, and what it means to raise children in a world where AI will increasingly be part of their everyday lives.

Part 2: Panel — AI Through the Eyes of Schools & Students

Following the keynote, we'll bring together three perspectives:

  • De Kai Wu — AI scientist and ethicist

  • A Tri-Valley education leader — representing the realities, opportunities, and challenges schools are seeing today

  • A local youth representative — bringing the student voice into the conversation

Together, they'll explore both the opportunities and risks of AI for young people: from learning and creativity to academic integrity, misinformation, over-reliance on AI, digital wellbeing, and preparing students for an AI-powered future.

Why This Matters

For parents, this event offers a clearer understanding of the AI environment their children are growing up in and a framework for having more thoughtful conversations at home.

For students, it creates space for their experiences and perspectives to be heard while encouraging them to become thoughtful, critical, and responsible users and creators of technology.

For schools and educators, it creates an opportunity to engage families around one of the most important educational questions of our time and to build a stronger shared understanding of responsible AI use across the school community.

Who Should Attend?

Parents, students, educators, school leaders, and community members who want to better understand how AI is affecting the next generation.

No technical or AI background is required.

This is a community education event designed to bring schools, families, students, and AI experts into the same conversation.

We're Looking for a Tri-Valley School Partner

We are currently seeking a local school or school district partner to host the event and help bring this conversation to the broader Tri-Valley community.

Our team will lead the programming, speaker coordination, event production, promotion, and community outreach. We are primarily looking for a school partner able to provide an appropriate venue such as an auditorium, multipurpose room, or similar gathering space.

By partnering with us, a school can help provide students and families with direct access to a globally recognized AI expert, demonstrate leadership in AI literacy and responsible technology use, and create an important bridge between what students are experiencing, what parents are concerned about, and what schools are navigating every day.

As always, food and drink, engaging conversation, and incredible company will all be provided!

Please be advised: Unfortunately, space is very limited at these community events and we can not always accept everyone we would like to. If you are not accepted to this event, please keep applying! We appreciate your application tremendously and we are looking forward to seeing you at a future event very soon!
