THE ALL-IVY SUMMER SOLSTICE SOCIAL: ULTIMATE DIVE BAR EDITION
**First 30 people to use coupon code "ACTFAST" get a $10 discount**

Vintage photos of movie stars on the wall: Sophia Loren. Marilyn Monroe. James Dean. Two pool tables. $8 beers. Bar open till the wee hours. And a whole bunch of vinyl booths to sit, converse, and conspire.

Welcome to the Ultimate Dive Bar Experience. Our newest venue has nooks, crannies, outside patio, dance floor, and billiards area to inspire the spirit of socializing and play. Happy hour till 7, so come early. We'll have the magic names tags and a new icebreaker game, with prizes for enthusiastic participation.

Come for renewed connections and the smartest conversations in town. Recent guests have included: pioneering happiness scientist, art dealer, patent lawyer, dental school prof, b-school prof, theoretical physicist, venture capitalist, biotech founder, NASA and SpaceX scientists, public-health filmmaker, animal roboticist, quantum computer scientist, luxury realtor, biotechnologists, White House economist, and all the grad students. In other words, hundreds of interesting people like yourself! Check out the latest photo album and our Instagram page.

To facilitate more meaningful exchanges, the Sparkling Conversations Rules™ will be in play. For the first 30min of talking to someone, don't ask where they're from or what they do for a living. Ask, like, anything else. I guarantee you'll have far more interesting chats without those tired convo crutches. Constraints compel creativity (see this book which is life-alteringly awesome).

VENUE: Epic dive bar in West LA. Easy hop from the 10 or 405 freeways. Super easy street parking on side streets.

In other news, several of you have been kind enough to tell me about specific friendships and business deals you had forged via All-Ivy LA gatherings. SO glad to hear that, because those are the kind of stories that keep me (and therefore the events) going. This testimonial was my favorite, from a first-timer responding to the question: What did you like about attending an All-Ivy LA party?

"At the tactical level, having "What do you want to talk about?" name tags was excellent. People were really using them and they helped ensure conversation topics that everyone could unite on. But overall I appreciated that everyone I met was smart yet down-to-earth, open to engaging on a wide breath of subjects, and really wanted to make conversations work. Felt like people had the high goodwill level that usually only happens when meeting friends-of-friends through direct intros, rare to achieve in such a large group. Having the backyard to ourselves also made everything feel spacious yet contained.

A friend had invited me to the event and I did eventually meet up with him, but I spent the first few hours solo. I expected that to feel awkward, but it didn't. I also ended up exchanging contact info with essentially everyone I spoke to, which I wouldn't have expected (usually at networking things there are inevitably some conversations that are just clearly not a fit and everyone politely moves on)."

And for first-timers: Why attend an All-Ivy LA event, you ask? Here are some reasons that come to mind:

• You like having conversations with smart, educated, curious people. At All-Ivy LA events, In every direction of the compass, you will find someone interesting and welcoming to talk to.
• You want to make some new friends. We build relationships through repeated contact, so keep coming! Your next BFF is in here somewhere. Some people who met 3 years ago at All-Ivy are still friends.
• You want to find a life partner. Most All-Ivy members are single. What better place to connect meaningfully with like-minded people without dealing with the nonsense of the apps and the hassle of a date? This is the most likely place to find your future ex-spouse :)
• You want to advance your business interests. Whether you're looking to raise funds, invest in a venture, find a new gig, or hire someone qualified, the All-Ivy LA network is a great place to start. Magic happens when a bunch of bright, ambitious, and kind people come together.

Non-Ivy guests: You're welcome to purchase up to one extra ticket for a companion who's not an alum of one of the listed schools.

NOTE: NO REFUNDS. Pretend like you're going to a concert or the theater — when you buy the ticket, it's yours. If your plans change, you're welcome to transfer unused tickets to someone else or use it at a future event, but remember — NO REFUNDS. Your charge will appear as "ELITE COMM/ALL-IVY" on your credit card bill.

Look forward to seeing you soon!
