ambient qi-gong @ TIAT #chinamaxxing co-presented with Culture Slop
Inspired by the meeting of ancient wellness practices and contemporary nightlife in China, this evening pairs qigong and ambient music for a collective exercise in slowing down—somewhere between meditation, performance, and a very slow rave.
⭑.ᐟ
Dr. Mike J. Ng 伍伟杰博士 will guide a gentle qigong practice rooted in breath, attention, and movement, accompanied by an ambient set from Chris Giang (exteeng). Afterward, Kyt takes over the decks while Chris serves tea, inviting us to settle in, listen, and linger.
Come move, breathe, and decompress together. No previous qigong or Tai Chi experience is necessary.

⭑.ᐟ About the artists
Born and raised in San Francisco, Dr. Mike J. Ng has practiced martial arts since the age of five. His decades of training span Tai Chi (Taiji), Qigong, Bagua, Xing Yi, and Shaolin Kung Fu, alongside ongoing research into the intersections of martial arts, medicine, and modern science.
Chris Giang (@exteeng) is an Oakland-based multimedia artist whose practice weaves together tea, flowers, incense, handmade ceramics, and sound. Attuned to the tenderness of everyday life, she creates immersive sensory experiences that invite presence and reflection. Her soundscapes dismantle and reconfigure fragments of pop culture into restless, expressive audio narratives.
⭑.ᐟ More on Chinamaxxing
This event is presented in conjunction with our latest exhibition at TIAT called Chinamaxxing. A group exhibition on view 9/25 - 10/17 ⭑.ᐟ
Earlier this year, “Chinamaxxing” emerged online as a playful embrace of contemporary China—its technology, infrastructure, food, fashion, and everyday life. But what, exactly, are you embracing—a culture, an aesthetic, a political possibility, a different version of yourself?
Across sculpture, moving image, poetry, performance, and interactive systems, Chinamaxxing follows objects, technologies, and rituals as they travel across borders. The artists explore what gets translated, imitated, misunderstood, or made intimate along the way.
The exhibition asks what we want from China, and what we might discover beyond wanting.
