Summer of the Sower Plant ID Hike
Join Black Seed Book Club, a new book club from CMB Oakland, for our “Summer of the Sower” skill-sharing workshop series, where we’ll reflect on the lessons of Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower over a series of gatherings.

🥾 Plant ID Hike (Aug 15): Take a 1.6 mile stroll through one of the biodiverse trails of Tilden Regional Park with Zelena (@hikingtheboot), Certified Naturalist in Louisiana and California. Learn more about the land that sustains us, the native plants and animals, and how it relates to Octavia's principles and legacy.
You don't need to have read the book to join any of these workshops or commit to attending all the events. Join us whenever you can, and build community resilience through land-based skill sharing and reading together.

🌿 Rooted Remedies— Tinctures & Salves (Aug 8): Gather herbs with Camille at @freedomcommunityclinic’s Ancestral Farm, and fashion your own first-aid kit of tinctures and salves.
🌱Black Seed Saving 101 (Aug 29): Save seeds from the foods that fed our ancestors and learn more about Black food sovereignty with Camille at FCC’s Ancestral Farm.
📚 Parable of the Sower Book Club (Sep 12): We’ll gather at the end of the Summer to discuss Parable of the Sower — and whatever it has stirred in us.
