Town Hall: Community Resilience for Economic Sovereignty
From Open Letter to Budget 2026
A walkthrough of the community resilience policy package, the latest campaign updates, your questions, and time to take action together.
About this event
Over the past few months, organizations across Canada's impact field have aligned their policy priorities behind a common agenda: community resilience being foundational to Canada's economic sovereignty.
Hundreds of organizations have now signed the Community Resilience Open Letter, asking the Government of Canada to build community resilience into Budget 2026 through three linked pillars:
a $3 billion Community Resilience Fund;
tax and guarantee tools to unlock private and philanthropic capital; and
framework legislation recognizing community finance institutions.
Join us for one hour to get up to speed on the package and put it to work.
What we will cover
The package, start to finish. A plain-language walkthrough of the three pillars: what each one does, how they fit together, and what they would mean for communities.
Where the campaign stands. Signatories to date, engagement with government, and what happens between now and the budget.
Your questions. Q&A on the package and the campaign.
Action together. We will close with working time to sign the letter, email your MP using our template, and share the campaign material with your networks.
Who should come
Foundations, community finance institutions, Indigenous financial institutions, impact investors, networks, municipalities, housing providers and researchers. If this is the first you are hearing of the campaign, you are exactly who we want there.
The ask is set and is already in front of decision-makers. This session is about sharing insights and updates, and working to advance the agenda collectively.

This is a collective campaign stewarded and facilitated by a working group from Impact United Academy's Public Policy Circle, including: Definity Foundation, McConnell Foundation, Philanthropic Foundations Canada, Social Capital Partners, SVX, and the Victoria Forum.
A small working group got the campaign this far. This town hall is where it becomes a bigger team effort!
