Culture in the New Era: Potluck!
A dinner and cultural potluck at Apollo Innovation Commons
Every era gets the culture it builds. The institutions we make, the rituals we keep, the food we put on the table, the stories we agree are worth retelling: these are the things that decide what a period of history actually feels like from the inside. We are living through one of those turns right now, and most of the conversation about it is happening in the language of technology and policy. We would like to have it in the language of culture instead.
So we are setting a table. Bring a dish that carries something of where you come from, whether that is a family recipe, a regional staple, something you learned to make in a place you no longer live, or the thing you cook when you want someone to feel taken care of. Come ready to say a few words about why you brought it.
Over dinner we will sit with a handful of questions. What parts of the culture we inherited are worth carrying forward. What we are ready to let go of. What new rituals a period of accelerating change asks us to invent, and who gets to invent them. What it means to make meaning together when so many of the old containers for meaning have thinned out.
This is a potluck in the fullest sense of the word. The evening is made from what everyone brings.
