ACC Working Session @ MIT
Agentic Commerce Commons at MIT
Retail is at a crossroads.
The rules of agent-driven commerce are being written now.
Today, a handful of AI platforms sit between nearly every buyer and every brand. They advise the shopper and earn revenue from product placement at the same time. That conflict of interest is being built into the defaults for how AI agents discover, rank, and buy.
On December 4, MIT convenes a one-day working session to design the alternative: an open network where each buyer's AI is loyal to the buyer, each seller's AI is loyal to the seller, and no single intermediary sits in the middle.
Attendance is free and by invitation only. There is nothing to buy or sell. The Agentic Commerce Commons is an independent nonprofit effort.
In the room: retail and brand leaders, commerce platforms, card networks and issuers, payment platforms, researchers, builders, and investors. Convened by Ben Vigoda (MIT Design Intelligence Lab), Negin Golrezaei (MIT Sloan, IBM Watson AI Lab), and Vivek Farias (MIT Sloan, MIT Operations Research Center).
Proposed topics & working groups:
Discovery, recommendation, & advertising
Identity, reputation, provenance, & dispute resolution
Monitoring, measurement, data, & privacy
Simulation and benchmarking
Price negotiation & auction design
Agentic news & media commons
Organizational governance – the not-for-profit foundation
Merchant adoption
Consumer adoption
This is a working session, not a conference. Every attendee joins a working group and helps shape the draft standard, which goes to the National Retail Federation in New York, January 10–12.
