Heat Stress: Invitation-Only Strategic Workshop

Co-hosted by Fashion Producer Collective, the American Apparel & Footwear Association and Cascale, this invitation-only strategic workshop will convene key actors working on heat stress for a closed-door discussion to align on current initiatives, identify systemic gaps, and shape a shared roadmap for action.
Participants will include invited leaders and decision-makers actively working on heat stress, alongside implementation partners across manufacturing, brands, philanthropy, and labor.
Taking place alongside the Cascale Annual Meeting (September 14–16, 2026) in Athens, this workshop is part of a two-part engagement. Outcomes will be brought to the wider industry through a Mainstage Plenary Call to Action at the Cascale meeting, sharing key recommendations and mobilizing broader industry commitment.

Context:
Rising global temperatures and extreme heat waves represent an immediate threat to worker health, productivity, and life across major manufacturing hubs. With severe heat projected to impact the tropics heavily through 2026 and 2027, the fashion industry faces heightened risks of mortality, morbidity, and operational disruption.
While initial responses exist—such as AAFA’s heat stress guidance, forthcoming brand standards, and Accord/RSC protocols—the current landscape is fragmented. Incremental administrative fixes (hydration, training, fans) fail to address the core structural challenges:
Infrastructure: Financing and deploying active, scalable cooling systems.
Commercial Alignment: Ensuring equitable cost-sharing between brands and manufacturers so solutions can actually be implemented.
Legal & Regulatory Exposure: Inaction risks severe human rights violations, bringing compliance exposure under CSDDD and local labor laws.
Fragmented, siloed measures will yield meagre results. We need a unified industry coalition—uniting brands, manufacturers, industry associations, impact organizations, labor representatives, and governments—to drive systemic, equitable solutions before crisis strikes.
Desired Outcomes
Landscape Alignment: Clear mapping of existing heat stress initiatives.
Systemic Needs Map: Shared consensus on critical infrastructure, financial, and policy needs.
Coalition Foundation: Relational groundwork and possibly a commitment to launch a joint industry coalition.
Broad Call to Action: Industry-wide visibility and support for the systems needs map on the mainstage.
