Lunch Series: Celtic Conversations with Bernie Brophy
This regular lunch series will feature insights and an engaging presentation from a special guest speaker in our community, over a delicious catered set lunch and the opportunity to connect with fellow club members in a welcoming setting. This month we welcome Bernie Brophy to our lunch.
Bernie Brophy will speak about the celebrations that took place in and around Fremantle, Western Australia, in late March 2026 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Australia’s most daring maritime prison break in April 1876. Six Irish political prisoners, known as Fenians, were rescued by an American whaling ship, the Catalpa, which had travelled from New Bedford, Massachusetts, in April 1875 to carry out the rescue.
Bernie is a retired lawyer and a great-great-nephew of Hugh Francis Brophy, one of the 62 Fenians transported to Australia on the last convict ship, the Hougoumont, which arrived in Fremantle in January 1868. He is also a Life Member of the Celtic Club.
Your ticket price includes presentation and insights from our guest speaker and a catered two course set lunch prepared by Chef Dargan and the Wild Geese team.
