About Event

What if no one had to cook five different dishes in order to eat five different dishes?

Home cooking is good at producing quantity. It is much less efficient at producing variety. Once the ingredients are out and the kitchen is in use, making several portions of one familiar dish is often easier than planning, shopping for, preparing, and cleaning up after several different meals.

Meal Sharing is a virtual Public Life Collective working group exploring a simple exchange: each person makes a larger batch of one dish they know how to prepare well, keeps a portion, and exchanges the others with a small, compatible group.

One person’s repetition becomes another person’s variety.

For this first gathering, we will begin by mapping what people can already make:

  • What dish can you prepare confidently in a larger batch?

  • How many portions could you make without creating significant additional work?

  • Does it store, freeze, transport, and reheat well?

  • What dietary needs, allergies, ingredients, or kitchen practices would need to be understood?

  • What container, labeling, pickup, and cancellation systems might make an exchange manageable?

We will look for compatible dietary and geographic clusters and discuss what would need to be true for a small monthly meal exchange to become safe, useful, and worth repeating.

This gathering is a conversation—not a meal exchange, cooking obligation, or food service. No one is being asked to prepare or bring food. Attending does not enroll you in a group or commit you to cook for anyone.

Before any pilot begins, the group will need to confirm the food-safety, legal, liability, and tax requirements that apply to the exact model. Enthusiasm will not substitute for appropriate safeguards.

Anyone may attend. You do not need to have participated in an in-person Public Life Collective Sunday or any other working group.

Bring the name of something you make well—or simply your curiosity about whether feeding each other could make everyday life a little easier.
