About Event

Join neighbors for a hands-on volunteer morning at Cleveland Park to help restore the park’s historic SIDS Memorial.

Installed around 1980, the memorial honors infants lost to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The original concept was to plant a magnolia tree each year in memory of children lost to SIDS. Over time the effort faded, and the memorial unfortunately fell into disrepair.

In recent years the site was rediscovered and restored during a park cleanup, but vandalism and wear have again damaged the memorial. Lights and ropes have been stolen, graffiti appeared, and the area has deteriorated.

This volunteer effort will help bring the memorial back to a respectful condition.

What we’ll do

• Add fresh rock around the memorial
• Install new lighting
• Clean and tidy the surrounding area
• Spread native seeds nearby

All materials will be provided — we just need a few helping hands.

The memorial sits on the east side of Cleveland Park with a beautiful view of downtown, and this restoration will help preserve an important piece of the park’s history while showing care for the space.
