Expanding Consciousness through Sound
Of note: Please bring headphones, preferably noise-cancelling, for our experiential practice.
All of our ancient ancestors knew that sound carried our consciousness to expanded perception, enabling the gathering of information, insight, and healing for self, community, and the earth. We will be doing this using complex sonic architectures – these are compositions combining sound frequencies that are not music but enable our physiology to calm, our defenses to soften, and our consciousness to expand.
These sounds are beyond just binaural beats. The sonic rhythms enable brainwave entrainment which serves as a gateway to dreamlike, self-transcendent, and/or hypnotic states. These prompt inner reflection, healing, or information gathering depending upon the focus of the composition. The practice can quiet the analytic mind and create space for unconscious and transpersonal material to surface more freely.
The practice will be led by Dr. Margaret M. Clausen, a clinical psychologist with nearly two decades in private practice. Dr. Clausen’s work blends physiology, neuroscience, psychodynamic, somatic, transpersonal, and existential perspectives. She uses brainwave entrainment in her practice as a sober path for people to enter alternate states of consciousness for the purposes of insight and transformation.
During this group event, we will co-create a space to allow for deeper self-awareness to emerge. Our time will consist of a brief introduction to understand the intersection of the sounds and alternate states of consciousness. We will then have an experiential practice of listening to the sounds, and debriefing time to process reflections and reactions.
