Fiqh of Janazah Workshop

Introduction

Every soul shall inevitably taste death which we must all prepare for. This means to know the Islamic laws of funeral rites, journey of the soul and how we should prepare for the Hereafter. This all inclusive one day workshop will practically demonstrate to the audience: -

  • How the funeral & burial rites are prepared

  • Know what to do near death

  • What happens when someone dies

  • Bereavement & life after death

Aims and Objectives

This full day workshop aims to educate the participants the correct theory and practical understanding of funeral preparation according to the Qur'an and Sunnah and answer some of the common misconceptions regarding funeral preparations and other related matters.

Topics Covered

  1. What to do when someone dies?

  2. Necessary steps to preparing for someone’s funeral

  3. How to shroud, give ghusl and bury the deceased body

  4. The correct method of performing Janazah Salah

  5. The different stages of the soul

  6. Etiquettes of condolences and things to do after death.

  7. How to prepare for the Hereafter

  8. Sending reward to the deceased.

  9. Answers to most common questions.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to;

  • Appreciating the temporary nature of the Dunya and know how to prepare for the Hereafter

  • Know what initial steps to take when preparing for the funeral

  • Know the correct procedure and method in preparing the deceased from the time of death until burial and other related matters thereafter.

Presentation Format

Will be a full day workshop onsite combined with lecture format using PowerPoint presentation and practical demonstration. Segregated facilities will be provided onsite for brothers and sisters. Lecture sessions will be combined for both brothers and sisters using segregated facilities and the practical workshop will be delivered in separate spaces by an experienced Apa for the sisters and an external male scholar for the brothers.

Time: 12pm-4:30pm.

Onsite Only. It will not be broadcast online. Open to brothers and sisters with segregated facilities

Facilities for Parents

While we are not providing a crèche, we have arranged a mums and babies room with:

  • Live-streamed presentation and full audio

  • A comfortable space for parents with young children

  • Children under 12 must remain with their parent in this room

Workshop Lecturers:

  1. Mufti Abdul Waheed (Feature Presentation – Journey of the Soul.

  2. Apa Maryam deliver the practical demonstration of the washing and shrouding of the body to the female attendees.

  3. Maulana Zaffar Sahib to deliver the practical demonstration of the washing and shrouding of the body to the male attendees.

Brief Schedule of the Workshop

  • 12pm: Registration

  • 12:30pm: Session 1 - Mufti Abdul Waheed

  • 1:30pm-2:15pm: Salah Break & Refreshments

  • 2:15pm Session 2 - Workshop for Ghusl, Kafan and Janazah Salah & Burial (External speakers - delivered separately)

  • 4pm Break 10mins

  • 4:10pm Q&A

  • 4:30pm Conclusion with Du'a

About the Lecturer

Mufti Abdul Waheed currently serves as a full-time researcher at JKN Fatawa Department over a decade to date. All of his research fatawas are approved and published on the JKN Fatawa website under the attestation of Shaykh Mufti Saiful Islam. Many of the fatawas Mufti Abdul Waheed has answered in the past until now include divorce, marriage, dietary laws, finance and personal worship. He has performed Hajj three times and performed all three types of Hajj. As part of the JKN Fatawa Department project, he also deals with Muslim marriage counselling to supports couple struggling with their marriage relationship and helps people search for a marriage spouse for over a decade. He has delivered marriage workshops in various cities and periodically contributes articles on marriage and communication building in the Almumin magazine. He also lectures at JKN institute in Bradford in Islamic sciences such as, Tafsir (Jalalain), Fiqh (Hidayah), Usool-ul-fiqh (Usool Shashi), Arabic syntax and Islamic research (Buhooth al-Islamiyyah). He also lectures in the Takhassus fil fiqh course, a three-year part-time course which specialises in training students in Ifta at JKN institute and Al-Balagh Academy. He is also pursuing an MA in Islamic Education at Warwick University.
