Person Place Thing is an interview show based on the idea that people are especially engaging when they speak, not directly about themselves, but something they care about. Guests talk about one person, one place, and one thing with particular meaning to them.
Martha Wilson is a pioneering feminist artist whose five-decade career spans photography and performance exploring female subjectivity through role-playing and impersonations of other people's personae. In 1976, she founded Franklin Furnace, a New York artist-run space dedicated to exploring, promoting, and preserving artists' books, installation and performance art, video, and online art. Her work is in museum collections including MoMA, the Met, Whitney, Centre Pompidou, and the Albertina. https://www.marthawilson.com/
Randy Cohen’s first professional work was writing humor pieces, essays, and stories for newspapers and magazines (The New Yorker, Harpers, the Atlantic, Young Love Comics). His first television work was writing for "Late Night With David Letterman" for which he won three Emmy awards. His fourth Emmy was for his work on Michael Moore’s "TV Nation." He received a fifth Emmy as a result of a clerical error, and he kept it. For twelve years he wrote "The Ethicist," a weekly column for the New York Times Magazine. He is currently the creator and host of Person Place Thing, a public radio program.
Shayna Dunkelman is a Tokyo-born, New York-based percussionist, producer, and electronic musician known for dissolving the boundaries between acoustic tradition and electronic innovation. Specializing in the integration of acoustic drums with Ableton Live and analogue drum machines, her career defies categorization. She is a member of the acclaimed Puerto Rican electro-acoustic band Balún and co-founder of the percussion duo NOMON with her sister Nava Dunkelman, where she explores rhythm as a choreography of lyrical gestures.
