Super Robot Variety Hour (Or: Making Is Good & Good for You)
Come to Recurse Center's October Localhost!
Localhost is a series of technical talks in NYC given by members of the Recurse Center community. For every event, we set aside seats for the public.
🤖 Michael Suguitan on Robotic Possibilites
From Baymax to Boston Dynamics, the presentation of robots in everyday media suggests that they should be high tech and decisively anthropomorphic. In this talk, Michael will present what robots could look like through several "minimally robotic" artifacts: a robotic clock, a robot that looks for cats, and a crocheted robot that looks like a cat. The presentation will tie their technical implementations together with some introspective glue on the moral affordances of physical computing.
Doors open and snacks and refreshments will be available at 6:30 pm. Michael’s talk will begin at 7:00 pm with a subsequent Q&A session. More snacks and refreshments to follow.
This event is in-person only. A recording of the talk will be made available on the Recurse Center YouTube channel.
