Oro Urban Ultra
THE ORO ULTRA
October 31 | How far can you go?
1. WHAT IS A BACKYARD ULTRA?
One loop. Every hour. Until you decide you're done.
Run 4.1 miles every hour, on the hour.
You have 60 minutes to complete each loop.
Finish early? Rest, eat, hydrate, recover, and get ready for the next hour.
You can stop whenever you want after completing a loop.
The event is capped at 8 loops (33mi)
*this is not last man standing
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RUN ALL 8 LOOPS
Your goal is your goal — whether that's one loop or all the way to the finish.
2. WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON RACE DAY?
Each hour follows the same rhythm:
START → RUN 4.1 MILES → RECOVER → REFUEL → REPEAT
Between loops, you'll have time to:
Eat and hydrate
Change layers or shoes
Stretch and recover
Hang out with fellow runners
Mentally prepare for the next loop
Most runners average a 12 min/mile pace during Backyard Ultras, leaving around 10 min. to recover and refuel.
3. WHO IS THIS FOR?
You don't need to be an ultramarathoner.
This event is for:
First-time ultra runners
Experienced runners looking for a new challenge
ORO members and friends
Anyone who wants to test their endurance and see how far they can go
You can run, walk, or mix the two — as long as you make it back within the hour.
4. WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
12 MILES OR LESS
Keep it simple:
Comfortable running shoes + clothes
Hydration
Familiar snacks/fuel
Electrolytes
Weather-appropriate layers
Phone/watch
12+ MILES
Consider bringing:
Extra socks + shoes
Change of clothes/layers
Anti-chafing
Additional fuel + electrolytes
Recovery layers
Chair/blanket for between loops
*Recommended: crew for 4+ loops (this support person will assist you during your downtime between loops with water refills, gear and food prep)
Most importantly: bring what you know works for you. Race day is not the time to experiment.
