Olio NYC: FOMO, Time, & Free Will
Think Olio is an ongoing experiment in alternative adult learning to encourage curiosity, creative living, and face-to-face conversation.
We design Olios with professors, artists, and therapists to help you skip the small talk and make interesting, meaningful connections.
Let's dive into the topic of FOMO and all of the philosophical and experiential implications that this particular feeling brings up.
In this Olio, we will explore various philosophical perspectives on time, focusing on Henri Bergson's conception of duration, but also on scientific approaches to time, in the hopes of shedding some light on this ever-elusive concept and how it relates to our feelings of FOMO.
This Olio was designed by philosopher, Jeanne Proust. While teaching at different universities in New York and California, Jeanne is advocating for a widening of philosophical education beyond the academia frontiers by participating in different events open to the general public. She taught at Rikers Island as a volunteer, and regularly gives public talks in philosophy, leading her to produce her own podcast, "Can You Phil It?”. Jeanne also provides philosophical counseling to help people "untie the knots of their mind" using moral and aesthetic values to explore meaning and purpose.

About the Olio Experience:
Olios are a shared exploration of the arts and humanities in living rooms around the world. An Olio is a space that celebrates the wisdom of each individual and our collective genius. Without a central facilitator, Olios thrive on group participation and every gathering is unique.
This is a do-it-yourself (DIY) Olio, signifying the absence of a central teacher. As a group, we will follow the lesson plan to facilitate our conversations and activities.
