Make Believe: An Art x Tech Symposium Hosted by CultureSource and Black Tech Saturdays
Every real thing in Detroit started as make believe. A painter put the Rouge plant on the walls of the DIA. A man off the Lincoln-Mercury line built Motown. Three friends from Belleville plugged drum machines into their imaginations and gave the world techno. This city has always used art and technology as two hands on the same work.
Somewhere along the way the hands drifted. Technologists are building the most powerful creative tools in history and need people who know what to make with them. Artists hold what no tool produces on its own: what a thing is for, how it feels, the taste that turns output into meaning. Each has somewhere to go it cannot reach alone.
On Thursday, October 29, we are putting them back in the same room. A morning of conversation and relationship-building, then a communal lunch, because Detroit's best partnerships have always started over a shared meal.
For artists, curators, designers, musicians, founders, engineers, funders, and anyone who makes things and wants to make them with more people.
Come as you are. Bring what you know. Leave with people you did not have when you walked in.
