Strongwoman . QueerStrong with Ben Savin - A Liftover
We lifters are back at Commando Temple for another liftover with friends - for a session of Strongwoman, Queerstrong visiting the OG Ben Savin. ,If you came to the last one at Ancient Strength, you already know the vibe. If you did not, expect three hours of big energy, loud encouragement, and a chance to get hands-on with the fun stuff, tyres, stones, and all kinds of gloriously awkward objects to throw, lift, drag, and carry.
LiftOver is like a sleepover, but instead we go lifting. Lifters Coalition and friends visit coaches' gyms and activities that are adjacent to the Lifters Coalition.

Strongman training is basically picking up awkward objects and figuring out what to do with them. Hopefully you have a bit of an idea before you actually pick them up!
Stones. Tyres. Other heavy things. Things that don’t have handles where you want them.
For me, strongman isn’t about yelling (except with support, hilarious comments etc :), maxing out every session or pretending you’re in a competition (unless it’s the sparkly Queerstrong event).
It’s about building real, usable strength — the kind that makes everyday life feel easier, less of a pain in the bum!
What Is Strongman Training?
Strongman focuses on:
carrying heavy things
lifting odd-shaped objects
loading, dragging, pushing and pulling
strength that works outside the gym - old school rugged stuff
Unlike barbell-only training, strongman:
challenges grip and posture
builds full-body coordination
rewards problem-solving
teaches you how to move load, not just lift it
It’s strength with context. You move more than just barbells and dumbbells
Some of it is steeped in history - like stone lifting. Other stuff is random and modern (carrying fridges! and not because you bought one and the van broke down)

This is a playful, powerful session built around strongwoman-style movement in a queer-friendly space. You do not need to have done this before or require mad strength, just bring clothes you can move in and be ready to try something different. If picking up heavy odd things with excellent people sounds like your kind of party, come join us.
