The Business of Consulting — Session I

Two years of layoffs have reshuffled the talent economy. Contract and consulting job postings on BioSpace jumped 94% in the last year while full-time roles rose 5%. Companies are keeping payroll lean and bringing in expertise only when they need it.

Some of the best CMC and drug development operators in biotech now run their own practices, as consultants under their own LLCs. Most of them figured it out by getting it wrong a few times first.

Nobody shares that journey openly. It's what we end up talking about in 1-1s anyway, so we're bringing the room together to work through it properly.

The Business of Consulting is a new monthly series from the Biotech Consultant Network. Each session one member walks through how they genuinely run their practice. Where clients come from. What systems keep it running. How they handle contracts. When they know it's time to end a client relationship. What they'd do differently, and what they're still figuring out.

Session I — August 26. BCN member Michael Holden opens up his operating model. How he landed large clients within months of starting, the agentic systems running his operations, and what he'd do differently if this were day one.

Then we go through attendees' operating questions or struggles. Tell us what you're stuck on when you register and we will build the second half around it.

You'll leave with a set of operating principles to start from, an answer to the thing you're stuck on with your own consulting workflows, and a summary from the session that you'll receive afterward.

The room: BCN is an invitation-only network of senior consultants. CMC and drug development leaders, two-thirds at director level or above, whose expertise was built at Genentech, Moderna, Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Roche, Novartis, AstraZeneca, Amgen, Johnson & Johnson, the FDA, and more.

If you're a BCN member: this is the room, monthly.

Not a webinar. Cameras on, small room, real questions, open discussion.
