Graduate School Preparation Camp | STEM

​During the month of October I will be hosting an intensive 4 week bootcamp with three groups of 30 students each (90 max capacity). We will be going over the essentials of how to apply to a Graduate (Masters/PhD) program (mainly focused to US-based Universities, but the guidelines can be Global). The goal is that by the end of this 4 week program your odds of success for acceptance to pursue a STEM career of your choice for your top candidate schools increase. The ideal students for this bootcamp is a Peruvian or LatinAmerican undergraduate who is in his/her last year of undergraduate, but it is open to current Masters students, or students who are already looking into applying to graduate school but want to improve their application.

​The program will cover the following topics:

• ​Week 1: Introduction and Motivation: Why are you pursuing a Masters/PhD? Differences between a Masters and a PhD in goal. Overview of pre-requisites. Notes on the GRE & TOEFL. Milestones and Funding differences. In-class Homework 1. Class Discussion.
  
  * Week 2: University and Doctoral Advisor search. Google Scholar search for Lab/Culture. On the Importance of Letters of Recommendation & Internships. In-class Homework 2. Class Discussion.
  
  * Week 3: Preparing a CV, a Statement of Purpose and a Research Statements. In-class Homework 3. Class Discussion.
  
  * Week 4: Invited Guests and success stories. We will invite 4 graduate students who will share their application stories for a live Discussion Panel. An additional Q&A and personalized/group assessment will be done at the end of the class.

​Classes will be in Spanish but attendees are expected to have basic to intermediate level knowledge of English due to reading materials, in-class discussions, invited speakers, and the general pre-requisites for applying to international universities. Classes will be 2 hours and happen on Mondays, Wednesday or Saturdays per each session (30 students max per session) — starting on the Week of October 5th and ending on the week of October 26th. ​About the Instructor: Arturo Deza has a PhD in Dynamical Neuroscience from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and later worked as a PostDoctoral Research Scientist at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the field of Human and Computer Vision — mainly within departments of Artificial Intelligence and Computational Neuroscience. Before pursuing his academic career he studied his undergraduate in Robotics (Ingenieria Mecatronica) at Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria (UNI) in Lima, Peru. He was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at UTEC, and is currently the CEO & Co-Founder of Artificio.
