About Event

The UK government is about to release a consultation on banning cages for hens. Want to help shape animal welfare policy?

Join us for session where we'll:

  • Fill out the consultation together (takes ~20 mins)

  • Discuss what this policy change means for UK animal welfare

  • Learn how government consultations actually work

  • Enjoy free food!

Hosted by EA Cambridge x UK Voters for Animals.

No prep needed. Bring your laptop if you can.

This is being run in collaboration with the Cambridge Animal Advocacy Forum (CAAF), a new society aimed at advancing and platforming the cause for animal rights and welfare.

More context on the consultation:
The Animal Welfare Strategy for England was published in December, and the Government has already released two consultations which we will be completing:

🐓 Cage reform: proposed ban on keeping laying hens, pullets and breeder layers in cages One of the most significant potential improvements for egg-laying hens in the UK, affecting 7 million hens at any time. Guide here if you can't make the session

🐑 Lamb welfare: proposed changes to castration and tail docking methods - We won't cover this in the 20 minutes, but you can see the guide to filling this consultation here (content warning).

You can view the strategy here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/animal-welfare-strategy-for-england/animal-welfare-strategy-for-england.
