Mending Workshop & Clothing Swap Repair as Art: Learning Sashiko Technique
🧵 As part of Circular Economy Month, we continue moving from theory to practice, exploring how circular thinking can be applied in everyday life beyond recycling. One of the most impactful ways to extend the life of materials is through repair and reuse, yet these practices are often overlooked in mainstream sustainability discussions.
🌍 To bring circularity into action, Sustainability Community Finland is hosting a hands-on mending workshop in collaboration with Knitspot, focusing on repair as a creative and empowering practice.
🌱 This workshop introduces Sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitching technique that transforms mending into a mindful and artistic process. Alongside learning how to repair and reinforce garments, participants will also have the opportunity to engage in a clothing swap, extending the life of textiles and rethinking consumption habits in a collective setting.
💡 The event is open to everyone, with no prior experience needed. Whether you are new to sewing or already interested in sustainable fashion, this workshop offers an accessible and interactive way to engage with circular economy principles.
