equity-in-practice #4 | participatory approaches
Equity-in-Practice is a cross-sector gathering for people working to make organisations and systems more equitable. We meet for peer learning and connection.
November's session will explore the inner changes we need in our organisations and ourselves to support equity work.
Participatory and power-building approaches: what organisational leadership and impact measurement practices are needed to help such approaches thrive?
Love and equity: what needs to shift in how we inhabit our bodies and relate to one another - and to the rest of the living world - to sustain our equity work?
We'll be gathering at Clean Air Fund's office space in London SE1, near London Bridge and Borough stations.
November's agenda
We'd love to see you for the full afternoon if you can.
But we know schedules are busy – so if you want to drop in just for specific parts, please do. Approximate timings below:
2:30-3:00pm | GATHER
Arrive before 3pm, grab a drink, and meet others.
We'll run optional peer coaching trios during this time. They're fun and often 'magical' in their usefulness (said one participant).
3:00-4:20pm | WELCOME + SESSION ON PARTICIPATORY APPROACHES
Welcome, by Katy and Patrin
Discussion and knowledge exchange, facilitated by Sarah:
Emerging insights and knowledge exchange on the organisational leadership needed to help participatory and power-building approaches thrive
How might we define and measure impact when it comes to participatory work? We'll look at a list of definitions and indicators of impact to prompt discussion
BREAK
4:30-5:20pm | LOVE AND EQUITY
Facilitated by Monique
Monique will give a brief overview of her work on 'love as equity', inspired by the work of bell hooks and others. She will then facilitate an individual reflection on what our strongest 'heart-led' skills are. She will share exercises to sustain our minds, hearts, and bodies to continue the work.
5:20-5:30pm | CLOSE
Facilitated by Katy
...from 5:45-8pm | INFORMAL SOCIAL
Continue conversations at The Miller, 96 Snowsfields, London SE1 3SS, 5 mins' walk away. Friends and colleagues welcome.
November's co-facilitators
Sarah Campbell is a systems thinker and actor. For over a decade Sarah has worked to shift power in systems from social policy and philanthropy to the economy and public space. Currently, across Impact on Urban Health, Stir to Action, People's Economy, and Love Leeds Parks, she advances one core belief - that people most affected by decisions should have a role in shaping them.
Monique Sundree Rodgers is an ecologist, ultra-runner, and free-diver, a Climate Youth Resilience Ambassador, and Global Wellbeing and EDI Lead at Flora & Fauna International.
Katy Murray (Catalyst Collective) is a coach and facilitator working at the intersection of leadership, equity, and wellbeing.
Patrin Watanatada (think/feel/change) works with funders, advocates, and other mission-driven teams to put equity into practice through programme strategy, research, and convening. She started and co-convenes Equity-in-Practice.

Is this for you?
This gathering is for people who:
are working to make organisations and systems more equitable, and want to be around people who "get it"
want to help build a space grounded in anti-racism, anti-othering, and full belonging
are committed to learning, unlearning, and open, brave conversation
We are typically around 15-25 of us - a friendly, cross-sector group of practitioners committed to advancing equity. So far, areas we work on include: clean air and climate, urban health, health justice, global and public health, conservation, international development, built environment, global business, public law, anti-racism, disability justice, early childhood development, child health and wellbeing, MEL, grantmaking, research funding, narrative change, impact investment, facilitation, fundraising, organisational development, and leadership.
We have a shared Google doc about our work and interests so we can get to know each other a little in advance of each gathering. The link is shared upon registration, or just email Patrin to receive it (patrin@thinkfeelchange.org).
