Join us for a panel discussion and Q&A on what it takes to build a long-term solo career — from staying creatively inspired, to defining your own success.
We'll explore what it takes to go the distance as a freelancer: hearing first-hand about staying in the game: Which freelancers ‘last’? Who do they work with? How do they think about career progression?
Host
Isabel Woodford is the founder of the London Freelance Journalism Collective. She left Reuters in 2024 and has gone on to be published in The FT, The Atlantic, The Guardian, the Times, The Telegraph, the New Scientist, and others. Earlier this year, she launched a course designed for freelance journalists - outlining a blueprint to build a solo career.
Speakers
Kieran Morris is a writer, author and critic from Liverpool. He writes longform for the Guardian Long Read, FT Magazine and GQ, writes books for Phaidon, and reviews restaurants for the Observer. He also produces audio documentaries for Meadowlark Media, and co-edits FREELOADER, a monthly food newsletter.
Sarah Haque is an award-winning writer, essayist and features journalist. Her writing has appeared in the New York Review of Books, British GQ, British Vogue, Financial Times Weekend Magazine, The Guardian, The New Statesman and The Fence, among others. She holds a MSt in Creative Writing from the University of Oxford, and is currently working on her debut novel. She is represented by Kate Evans at Peters-Fraser + Dunlop.
Jem Bartholomew is an award-winning freelance reporter, with a focus on narrative nonfiction. Bylines include The Economist's 1843 Magazine, The Guardian Saturday's Magazine and New York Magazine. He is currently writing his first book, a work of reportage about poverty in the UK.
