Careers in Biotech: Conversations with Illumina Scientists

​Many scientists are curious about what working in biotechnology actually looks like beyond the academic lab and how research training translates into industry impact. Join us for an engaging roundtable lunch discussion with Ryan Schmidt, Associate Director of Manufacturing Sciences and Engineering at Illumina, along with Jon Gaffaney, PhD (Staff Biochemistry Scientist) and Min Pennella, PhD (Staff Biochemistry Scientist). Together, they will share insights into the realities of industry science, the collaborative nature of biotechnology, and the many pathways scientists take to build careers in the sector. Participants are encouraged to bring questions and engage in an open discussion about transitioning from academia to industry, developing careers in biotechnology, and the skills that help scientists thrive in team-oriented environments.
