Democracy Dinners #2: Ukrainian Kitchen is officially open for registration!

For those who've been asking since the first edition: this one is worth the wait.

#DemocracyDinners was born from a simple conviction: that democracy isn't only institutional. It's relational. It lives in the conversations we have across disciplines, backgrounds, and borders. And sometimes around a shared meal. The first edition proved that. This one goes further.

On 26 June, we gather at KOLO Community Space around a Ukrainian table.

🗣️ SPEAKERS

1️⃣ Oleksandra Matviichuk (@avalaina_ua), Nobel Peace Prize Laureate 2022 (@nobelprize) and head of the Center for Civil Liberties in Kyiv, will deliver video remarks. She has spent years documenting Russian war crimes and building one of the most important civil society organisations in Ukraine. Her words will open the evening.

2️⃣ Émeric Lhuisset (@emericlhuisset) will be at the table. He has been photographing Ukraine since before most people were paying attention — present at Maidan in 2014, author of Ukraine – Hundred Hidden Faces, and creator of what has become an icon of this war: the photograph summoning the spirit of the Zaporozhian Cossacks through the Snake Island soldiers’ defiant response to Russia. His work hangs at Tate Modern, the Centre Pompidou, the Stedelijk Museum.

3️⃣ Amber French-Griette, Co-founder and Executive Director of the Organization for Nonviolent Movements, also PADEM’s Advisory Board member brings to the table years of work on civic resistance, unarmed defense, and what it actually takes to build resilient societies from the ground up.

ℹ️ The evening will be moderated by Bilal Ata Aktas (@bilal.ata.aktas) Director of the @pademcentre

Ukraine today sits at the intersection of the most pressing questions facing European democracies: war and peace, security and freedom, sovereignty and solidarity, the role of civil society when institutions are under fire. We won't resolve any of it over dinner. But we'll think about it better together than apart.

Places are strictly limited. This is by design. Secure your seat before it is too late!
