Civic Voices: Cabarrus County
The decisions that shape your mission are being made now. Bring your voice to the table.
Civic Voices: Cabarrus County is a one-day, hands-on training from the North Carolina Institute of Public Leadership and Leadership Triangle. You'll walk out knowing exactly who makes the decisions that affect your mission, what your organization can legally do to influence them, and how to make an ask that gets heard.
What you'll learn:
How decisions really get made in NC. Who holds power at the city, county, and state levels, who represents Cabarrus County today, and what the local electorate looks like.
501(c)3's and lobbying: What’s legal, what’s not, and how to structure your advocacy to best support your charitable mission.
Engaging courageous conversations: Learn a framework for building bipartisan relationships and effective coalitions.
Enlisting your Board & donors: Set up your biggest organizational champions for success in advocacy.
How to tell a story that moves policy. Learn why stories shape public decisions, and how to pair yours with a clear, specific request.
Why it matters:
The public sector invests hundreds of millions of dollars across North Carolina every year. Organizations that understand how investment decisions are made are the ones positioned to shape and access that funding.
Advocacy also brings new allies to your work, extending your solutions beyond one organization into the policies and practices that shape outcomes across the region.
Finally, in advocacy you name root causes out loud. The challenges your clients face aren't random; they're the product of policy choices, norms, and power dynamics. This training gives you the language and strategy to say so in a way that is effective and respectful.
Your registration includes all training materials, lunch, coffee and snacks throughout the day.
